 History of Sindhudurg District


Sindhudurg district is the southern part of the greater tract known as the 'Konkan' which is historically famous for its long coast line and safe harbors. For administrative convenience and industrial and agricultural development Ratnagiri district .Sindhudurg district now comprises of eight tahsils of Sawantwadi, Kudal, Vengurla,Malvan,Devgad, Kankavli, Vaibhavwadi and Dodamarg.  The seven kingdoms of the Konkan of Hindu mythology are mentioned in the 'Hindu History of Kashmir' and are said to have included nearly the whole west coast of India 

History of Sindhudurg fort.

Sindhudurg island -fort was built by SHIVAJI the 17th century ruler of Maratha Empire. It main objective was the counter of rising of foreign (English, Dutch, French and Portuguese) 
The fort was built on a small island know as the khurte island and also sindhudurg fort is the historical for that occupies the island in the Arabian Sea . It is located in middle of sea in Malvan.

 AMAZING HISTORY OF KONDHANA ( SINHAGAD ) History The Sinhagad Fort was initially known as "Kondhana" after the sage  Kaundinya .
